Adoptions

Although the United States has ratified the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption which should eventually allow for international adoptions under Bolivian law, the necessary implementing procedures have not yet been worked out between the two countries.  Therefore, until further notice, only “national adoptions” under Bolivian law are permitted by U.S. citizens as described herein.  U.S. citizens who are also citizens of Bolivia, or who are legal residents of Bolivia, may adopt Bolivian children under certain conditions.  American citizens interested in adopting from Bolivia should contact the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in La Paz via e-mail at consularlapaz@state.gov
