Embassy Donates Books at Luribay
By J. Van Winkle
Seven representatives from Embassy La Paz traveled to the town of Luribay, seat of the Loayza province, to take part in the inauguration of the Luribay Municipal Library on Tuesday, July 24th. The embassy donated over 200 books for all reading levels to start the collection. The Americans read to the youngest children and the students recited poetry and performed a traditional dance to celebrate the occasion. This donation is a part of the "Estados Unidos y Bolivia: Unidos en la lectura" program, which has provided over 30,000 new Spanish-language books to libraries and schools throughout the country. The program, founded in 2004, is implemented with the twin goals of supporting literacy and increasing Bolivian's understanding of US history and culture.
