FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION ABOUT THE NEW APPOINTMENT SYSTEM

What is changing?

The US Embassy in Bolivia is transitioning to a new appointment service for applicants applying for non-immigrant visas. This new system is being implemented worldwide. The new process is easier, more convenient, and includes everything in one fee, making it less expensive than before.

How is the process changing?

As of October 3, 2011, all services including calling for information, scheduling an appointment, and passport pickup at DHL will be provided for no additional cost. Applicants will not pay for PIN numbers or for standard DHL pickup. Starting October 3, 2011, applicants will visit CSC VISA INFORMATION SERVICES website or call their call center to get information or start their application for a U.S. visa in Bolivia.

How is the new process better?

The new process is cheaper, faster, and available 24 hours a day. It is convenient because you can arrange everything online from home. You have a lot of flexibility with picking the date and time of the interview. You can also arrange passport pickup through DHL ahead of time. You can check the status of the passport online. And of course, the call center is always available to support you and answer questions.

How will the change impact people who are already scheduled?

If an applicant has not already made their appointment, it is easiest to wait for the new online system to be available October 3. But if an applicant has already paid the interview fee and made an appointment, their appointment will be honored. They should not pay again using the new system. They should arrive at the embassy as instructed in their confirmation email and bring their BISA Bank payment receipt. They can call the Call Center if they have any questions.

Can I make an appointment online?

Yes, an applicant can make an appointment online. The appointment website is available.

What happen with applicants who have paid their MRV fee prior to October 3, but have not schedule an appointment?

If you have paid your MRV fee prior to October 3, 2011, but have not scheduled an appointment, there will be a grace period from October 3, 2011 until November 1, 2011 during which you can still use your MRV fee for appointment scheduling. If you have not scheduled an appointment prior to November 1, 2011, you will have to pay the MRV fee again through the new service in order to schedule an appointment. If on October 3, you find that you have paid your fee but not scheduled your appointment, please visit CSC VISA INFORMATION SERVICES for assistance.

Will the new process affect the wait time to get an appointment?

No. The wait time fluctuates based on demand for visas.

What if I already have an appointment scheduled, how will I arrange to receive my passport?

The Call Center will individually contact applicants who already have an appointment scheduled to help them arrange passport pickup through DHL.
What if I want the courier to deliver the passport to my home or office?
Under the new process, applicants will pick up passports at DHL courier facility. We believe that this procedure provides the greatest security for visa applicants.

Is the ASC staffed by U.S. Government employees?

No, ASC staff work for a company contracted by the U.S. Department of State, Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC). CSC is the same firm contracted to operate our current Visa Call Center.

What are the negatives?

We believe that the new process offers so many advantages to applicants. It is in every way better than the existing process.
