Embassy Events 2012
Hip Hop Festival in Santa Cruz
By C. Gallardo
The U.S. Embassy and Centro Boliviano Americano in Santa Cruz are supporting another innovative cultural outreach event for young people. From August 20 to 24 both institutions are sponsoring the Third Hip Hop Week of Santa Cruz, which aims to highlight a healthy lifestyle.
The hip hop art movement emerged in the United States back in the 70s among African- American and Latin American populations in New York's Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn districts. From its inception, four distinctive elements made up the hip hop culture: break dance, rap, graffiti, and DJs. The U.S. Embassy and the CBA have already sponsored break dance and graffiti-themed programs. Now, it is time for the DJs to come on the stage!
For this event, the sponsors have invited prominent American artist DJ Basic, who will be performing at the CBA Auditorium on Friday, August 24, at 7:00 pm, along with other local DJs, including Yogui 13, Eskritura, and DJ Ark.
