Samaipata, a UNESCO Heritage Site, reflects the U.S. government's interest in preserving cultural patrimony and in Bolivia's millennial cultures.  Embassy officers and local officials together admired the park's unique ecosystem and stunning natural beauty.  Samaipata, the site where indigenous cultures from the Amazon, the Andes, and the Chaco came together, was a good place to reflect on U.S. priorities to reduce poverty and increase political participation for Bolivia's modern-day indigenous peoples.  (For more information on "El Fuerte," contact the Centro de Investigaciones Arqueológicas de Samaipata:  tel (591-3) 944-6065 or email ciaselfuert@cotas.net)
