The Consular Section in La Paz has information on how to register to vote and apply for absentee ballots for U.S. federal and state elections. Voters should keep in mind that they must apply early for an absentee ballot in order to have their vote count in an election.

How to Register to Vote in Bolivia

U.S. citizens who will be overseas on the date of a U.S. election may visit the Consular Section Window #8, U.S. Embassy located at Av. Arce 2780, La Paz, Mondays and Thursdays from 08:00 to 12:30, Tuesdays and Fridays from 08:00 to 12:30 and from 14:00 to 16:00.

Steps to follow:

Step 1: The voter completes and mails the Federal Post Card Application Form, available at the U.S. Consular Section. Information on oath/witness requirements should be obtained before mailing the card.

Step 2: If the voter qualifies, the local election authority mails the absentee ballot to the overseas address the voter has indicated on the application form.

Step 3: The voter completes the absentee ballot and sends it back to the local election officials in time to meet state deadlines. Information on oath/witness requirements should be obtained before mailing the ballot.
