WARDEN MESSAGE
U.S. EMBASSY LA PAZ, BOLIVIA
December 6, 2007
This Warden Message is being issued to notify American citizens that a march is planned for today at 3:00 in Cochabamba. The Bolivian media is reporting that fifty thousand Cocaleros (coca producers and their supporters) may be participating in the march. The Civic Committee and the Prefecture of Cochabamba have advised residents to remain at home and businesses located in the center of town are advised to close.
The Embassy strongly recommends that U.S. citizens avoid areas where the march is occurring or planned. As shown in similar protest actions in the recent past, there is always a potential for violence at these demonstrations. U.S. citizens should stay current with local media coverage of events, follow the instructions of local authorities and exercise caution.
For the latest security information, Americans traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department's Internet website at http://travel.state.gov where the current Worldwide Caution Public Announcement, Travel Warnings, and Public Announcements can be found.
